Before taking a Finnish prescription to a pharmacy abroad, please note the points below:

• You will be asked to present your passport or identity card at the pharmacy.

• Prescriptions for with medicines with a narcotic effect and medicines that affect the central nervous system cannot be purchased from pharmacies abroad, as they require the original prescription.
• Pharmacies in Poland and Portugal are gradually joining the scheme, so it is advisable to check in advance whether the European electronic prescription is accepted at the pharmacy of your choice.
• You can only purchase medicines with your own prescription. It is not possible to purchase medicines on behalf of another adult or child.

The aim of the European ePrescription is to ensure continuity of care and safe medical treatment for citizens moving around Europe. If a person needs medicines while staying in another European country, they can buy them from a pharmacy in that country.

Prescription data can be shared securely and efficiently using the shared digital services. A European e-Prescription also supports the management of the patient’s medication overall.
